The Sandwich Generation

The Sandwich Generation is what people are called when they are in the position of taking care of their children and also taking care of their ailing parents. I am now officially a part of this "Generation". My dad is not doing so well these days. He is just 60 yrs old but has the body of an ailing 90 yr old man. Recently he fell down the stairs at home and is now very unstable. He has experienced a lot of loss in this past year. He not only has deteriorating health but his mother (his best friend) also died. Now he is having to move into a new place because the family home is being sold. It has been a tumultuous time and he is very angry. I have been trying to help him through this transition and it is taking a lot of time, effort and emotion. It has been good for me to reconnect with my dad in this way. I encourage you to pray for him as he does not feel well most days and needs to find a new place to live.

You are great with your dad . . . he needs you and he loves you. And yet in a strange way i see you need him too and the time that you get to have with him. I have enjoyed getting to know Ronnie a bit, i wish i knew him back when he was well . . . it is hard for me to watch him as his body fails him, i cant imagine how that is for you. He is so blessed to have you for a son Michael!!
