Welcome Little Ryley!

So this is our new puppy Ryley. We got him on Boxing Day. Vanessa and I drove halfway over creation to find him yesterday. As we were driving Vanessa said, What do you think about the name Ryley for the dog?" It had been the middle name she had thought of using for one of her children who ended up being the other gender and thus was never used. I said, Great, as long as we spell it R-Y-L-E-Y." Ness said this was acceptable and it was done. And then just a couple of minutes down the road unbeknownst to us we passed the thriving metropolis of Ryley, Alberta. As we saw the sign for the town we knew indeed that it was a sign for us. We laughed and thought, "God, you have a sense of humor!" Welcome our little Ryley who is six weeks old and is a Weimaraner-Collie Cross.

The River

You know a dream is like a river
Ever changin' as it flows
And a dreamer's just a vessel
That must follow where it goes
Trying to learn from what's behind you
And never knowing what's in store
Makes each day a constant battle
Just to stay between the shores
And I will sail my vessel 'Til the river runs dry
Like a bird upon the wind
These waters are my sky I'll never reach my destination If I never try
So I will sail my vessel 'Til the river runs dry
Too many times we stand aside
And let the waters slip away 'Til what we put off 'til tomorrow
It has now become today
So don't you sit upon the shoreline And say you're satisfied
Choose to chance the rapids And dare to dance that tide
And I will sail my vessel 'Til the river runs dry
Like a bird upon the wind These waters are my sky
I'll never reach my destination If I never try
So I will sail my vessel 'Til the river runs dry
There's bound to be rough waters
And I know I'll take some falls
With the good Lord as my captain I can make it through them all
And I will sail my vessel 'Til the river runs dry
Like a bird upon the wind
These waters are my sky I'll never reach my destination If I never try
So I will sail my vessel 'Til the river runs dry
Lord, I will sail my vessel 'Til the river runs dry
Yea

Saying Goodbye

We said our goodbye's to Roca today. The Vet said that she was too far gone and would not be able to recover. It has been an exhausting ordeal for us as a family. She was a great dog and very smart and even though we had her for just a short time. She will be missed. Vanessa and I both agree that we are thankful for the time we had her. She was such a sweet puppy. In the time she was with us she was loved greatly. And she fought really hard. Now there is no more struggle for our little dear. We love you Roca.

Hard Decisions

So today after three weeks of having our baby Roca we have to take her to the vet to decide if she should be put down. She clearly has distemper and this is such a crappy thing to have happen. Our kids are feeling distraught over this as are we. She is our baby girl with whom we have come to love very much. I really don't know what to do and feel just sick about this turn of events. We love you Roca girl!
